Lampang Elephant hospital
This is the world's first Asian Elephant hospital. It was started in 1993 by Soraida Salwala to treat elephants that are ill or injured from work, abuse or neglect. Since opening they have treated over 3,000 elephants for a range of ailments; eye infections, knife wounds, gunshot wounds, broken bones, drug addictions and landmine accidents. They have built prosthetic limbs to replace the ones lost in landmine explosions.
It was truly remarkable to see the level of care for these elephants, heart warming for sure!
